One of the most common questions we hear is,
How many links will it take for me to get my site ranked?

In our experience, there is no exact formula. But, we put together a little case study just to see...

First, we took 3 similar websites that all ranked on page 3 of the search results for a moderately competitive keyword.

Then, we used our Link Wizard to drip links to each site from relevant, high PR web pages. Each of the link campaigns had the same anchor text distribution (percentage of related keywords, brand names, raw URL's, etc). But, we set up the queues to place a different number of links.

It took about 8 days for the search engines to notice the links...

So, how many links does it take?

As you can see, there isn't an exact correlation between how many links you buy and your precise location in the rankings. The only thing we know for sure is LINKS WORK!

Updated!

We kept the links up for about a month to make sure the rankings stayed strong (which they did). Then, we removed the links to see what would happen...

Below are the rankings before we removed the links.

Within only 2 days, 2 of the sites had fallen off the first page.

The upshot is: Links Work...But only if you keep the link electricity flowing. (Yes, we already suspected this, but it is nice to have confirmation.)
